the kamal

This exhibit transports visitors into the open sea, following the journey of merchants and the evolution of sailing and navigation techniques. A seasoned sailor guides a young apprentice, demonstrating how knowledge of the seas was passed down through generations. Visitors are then introduced to the kamal, an early navigational device used to estimate latitude by aligning the horizon with the Pole Star. Through this experience, the exhibit highlights how such tools helped shape trade routes and enabled long-distance maritime journeys.
